We had a nice sunny day for our December walk at Humber Bay Park East, led by Hugh Currie. Finding birds was almost as much of a challenge as walking on the icy terrain. Waterfowl were scarce at Humber Bay East, but we found most of the usual suspects there in small numbers. In addition, we found four Trumpeter Swans, a pair of Ruddy Ducks, and all three species of Merganser. Passerines were even more difficult to find: just a couple of Goldfinches that Hugh was able to flush from the tangle near the eastern headland.

We found large rafts of Scaup, Canada Geese, Goldeneye, and Bufflehead at Humber Bay West, but they were well out from shore since most of the bay was frozen.

There will be no walk in January. (The weather is usually bitter, and the birds scarce.) The next one will be in February.
