Humber Bay Parks Update & Comments

For our Bird Walk on November 11, we covered some new ground. Instead of Humber Bay, which would be the usual location for the November walk, we went to the western edge of Etobicoke: Marie Curtis Park and the Arsenal Lands. It was a cold, damp morning with few birds, but what it lacked in quantity of birds species, was partially compensated by quality. The lake was fairly quiet except for large numbers of Red-breasted Mergansers. A male Common Merganser provided nice close range views in the creek. On the west side of the creek, near the edge of the Arsenal Lands, we flushed a Great Blue Heron. The highlight of the walk was a flock of at least nine Eastern Bluebirds found near the water tower. They were actively feeding as they moved slowly westward, providing great (though distant) views.

The fall raptor migration was winding down, but we saw one Red-shouldered Hawk along with several Red-tails.

Unfortunately, most of the birds were out of camera range, but here are a few photos:
