CCFEW Planning Meeting Schedule

Unsettled weather meant that few migrants were on the move the night before our September 14th walk at Sam Smith Park. Still leader, Glenn Coady managed to find lots of interesting birds. As you can tell from the photo gallery below, most birds were keeping their distance on water and on land.

September is also prime time for raptor migration in Toronto. Raptors (large flesh eating birds, not basketball players) do not like to fly over large bodies of water, so they reach Lake Ontario on their journey south, they turn west and follow the shore toward the Niagara Peninsula. We often see migrating raptors on our September & October, walks, but not this time.

There was however a good movement of dragonflies. Black Saddlebags and Common Green Darners were both present in good numbers, although most were taking shelter in the bushes.
