Cesar Ponce led our December 7th walk at Humber Bay Park.
It was a cold December morning but people were enthusiastic about the walk and birds to be seen. Main targets for the day included waterfowl and gulls. The group was entertained by a large raft of waterfowl consisting of scaups, mainly Greater Scaups with at least one Lesser, and some Redheads. Since the bay was not frozen yet gulls were sitting on the docks, which made them hard to see due to the distance, but despite that we were able to determine that the vast majority of them were Ring-billed Gulls, with some American Herring Gulls sprinkled in between. The highlight for the day was an adult Bald Eagle (which was a lifer for some in attendance) that flushed all the gulls. Our passerine drought came to an end right as we approached our starting point at Humber Bay West parking lot, where we saw several Black-capped Chickadees, Golden-crowned Kinglets, Northern Cardinals and one Red-breasted Nuthatch.
